Prohibition of berating parents

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

كتاب الأدب

عن عبد الله بن عمرو بن العاص رضي الله عنهما أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم قال: "من الكبائر: شتم الرجل والديه" قيل: وهل يسب الرجل والديه? للاب: "نعم, يسب أبا الرجل, فيسب الرجل أباه, ويسب أمه, فيسب أمه." متفق عليه.

Translation:

......... from Friend 'Abdullah bin' Amr bin 'Ash (W. 63 H) that the Messenger of Allaah Alayhi Wa sallam said: "Among the great sins is a man cursing his parents."

So the Prophet asked: "Did anyone revile his parents?"

The Prophet sallallaahu Alayhi Wa sallam said: "Yes there is, someone chided the father of another person, then the other person again chided his father. And (likewise) he berated other people's mothers, then the other person chided his mother too." (muttafaq alaih)

Istifadah:

We know that a child is told to speak softly to his parents.

Therefore Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala said:

فلا تقل لهمآ أف ولا تنہرهما وقل لهما قولا ڪريما

"Thou shalt not say to them" uf "and do not yell at them and say to them both glorious words." (QS Al-Isra: 23)

⇒ "Uf" is a sentence that shows "tathajjur" (aggravation) and "uf" is the lowest sentence that shows irritation.

If we interpret in our language we might say "ah". There are no lighter sentences than "ah".

Some commentators say:

◆ If there are sentences in Arabic that are lighter than the phrase "uf" then Allah will mention (use), but the phrase "uf" is the lightest irritation sentence.

⇒ Moreover, shouting at both of them.

Therefore, we must keep our words to parents.

If we can speak subtle words to our friends, our brothers, especially to superiors, then to parents is more important for soft words.

Don't let us give a word that shows irritation.

If you say Ah "to parents is an unclean matter, then especially to berate or curse parents.
